BigEars Limited is a privately held company. The BigEars service is the result of over 3 years research and development by a team led by Speech Scientist Dr Mark Forsyth. BigEars has been delivering strategic information to our clients since 2004.
Our Board
Mark ThomsonMark Thomson is a very successful entrepreneur, highly regarded in New Zealand and Australia for creating and selling a multimillion dollar business in the EFT-POS (Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale) market in the 1990s. New Zealand was, and is, a world leader in that market.
Mark is now a full time active investor in growth companies. Mark and Wayne have been instrumental in setting BigEars sales and marketing strategies, and in raising capital for the expansion of the business.
Wayne Norrie
Wayne is CEO of Revera, a leading IT Infrastructure provider in Australasia.
Wayne has over 20 years IT industry experience, progressing from technical roles through to management and leadership roles. Wayne started the services side of Hitachi Data Systems business, and saw the company move from zero to 70% of revenues from services within 4 years and culminated in a MBO. Wayne is passionate about company culture (his role at Revera has CEO standing for Chief Enthusiasm Officer), and is a sought after speaker on the topic of developing a winning culture.
Wayne brings to BigEars an understanding of the infrastructure requirements for delivering an Internet based product or service to an international market, and extensive sales and marketing experience. Wayne is a member of the Board of the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Beachheads program that facilitates the international expansion of top New Zealand companies . He is also on the Hi Growth Board, which is tasked with implementing the Governments ICT Taskforce recommendations, and on the committee for ITANZ (Information Technology Association of New Zealand). Wayne is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management and a qualified member of the Institute of Directors.
Dr Mark Forsyth Founder
Mark Forsyth is New Zealand's most experienced Speech Scientist, having been continuously specializing in automated telephone services, in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, and the USA since 1989.
As a Commonwealth Scholar, Dr Forsyth was awarded a PhD in Speech Recognition and Speaker Verification from Edinburgh University's Centre For Speech Technology Research (CSTR) in 1995.
Dr Forsyth leads the research and development effort that, starting in 2003, has made the BigEars service possible.
His work with BigEars has kindled a great interest in market research, and surveying and interviewing generally. In addition to his role as CTO and product manager for BigEars, Mark takes a hands-on role with many of our key customers.
